[ULTIMATE GUITAR] Kenny Wayne Shepherd on Whether Les Paul or Strat Is More Versatile

While preparing for his tour, blues rock guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd told Ultimate Guitar in a new interview that both Gibson Les Paul and Fender Stratocaster can achieve great sonic versatility in the right hands.

Although it's been many decades since both of these models were introduced, we could argue that Les Pauls and Strats still present the two main standards in the world of electric guitar. Plenty of brands out there make either 24.75-inch scale guitars with two humbuckers or 25.5-inch scale guitars with three single-coil pickups or other pickup combos, like HSS.

As far as Kenny Wayne Shepherd is concerned, the Fender Stratocaster is his weapon of choice, although he did mention during the interview that he owns other models as well. Whatever may be the case, he thinks that versatility is a combination of a player's abilities and a particular guitar model's features.
