The Place You're In, Kenny Wayne Shepherd's fourth studio album, marks a stunning stylistic shift for an artist who almost single-handedly introduced blues-rock to a new audience. One of the most acclaimed guitarists of his generation not only leans more heavily toward rock on this release, but this is Shepherd’s first album prominently featuring his vocals.
Produced by Marti Frederiksen and featuring a guest appearance by Shepherd’s friend, Kid Rock, The Place You’re In was a huge hit at rock radio. “Alive”, the first single, was a top ten hit at rock radio and was followed up with two more charting singles with “Hey, What Do You Say” and the title track “The Place You’re In”.
Shepherd, whose first three albums were certified Platinum and Gold and had earned seven Top 10 Mainstream Rock cuts and three Grammy nominations took lead vocals on all but three songs. Long time vocalist Noah Hunt takes lead vocals on tracks “Believe” and “Burdens”, while Shepherd’s friend Kid Rock makes a guest appearance singing on the raucous “Spank”.
