Tipitina’s Foundation Inc. and Shreveport blues guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd today announced a new initiative in this city and unveiled a giant portrait of Shepherd.
The news conference was held at the Tipitina’s Music Office Co-Op building, 700 Texas St. in downtown Shreveport (next to artspace).
Other honorees, including Brady Blade and Buddy Flett, also attended.
The poster unveiling completes the first phase of the foundation’s public tribute to legendary Shreveport musicians.
The foundation also announced the launch of Shreveport Instruments A Comin' 2012, a school band instrument program in Shreveport, starting with a grant of $10,000 to a local school. The school will be chosen by the community and will be identified in the next 30 days.
“We’ve been looking for the opportunity to replicate what we do to support school marching bands and music programs," Roland Von Kurnatowski, co-founder of the Tipitina’s Foundation and co-owner of Tipitina’s music venue in New Orleans, says in a statement promoting the news conference. "Because of this remarkable connection that has popped up between the Tipitina’s Foundation and Kenny Wayne Shepherd, we’re very excited to begin planning in Shreveport.”

The KWSBand just returned from a two week tour of Europe with sold out shows throughout. This was the bands first European tour in a decade and is the warm up to a more extensive festival and headline tour for 2012. While there the band visited the Drive time show on BBC Radio 2 and appeared on the Harald Schmidt Show on German television.

Its official. Kenny and the band brings the HOW I GO Tour to Europe November 7 thru November 20. Stop will include London, Amsterdam, several cities in Germany, the Czech Republic. Check the TOURDATES link at Kenny Wayne Shepherd.net for announced cities. The London date will be at KOKO on 11/7/11.
